Jimmy Lee West, Sr., born on November 12, 1937, was a remarkable individual. Raised in Cataula, Georgia, he was one of twenty-two siblings under the care of Jessie Mae Whitehead West and William West. Growing up as an African American man in rural South Georgia, it was common to develop a skilled trade at a young age. Jimmy chose fencing, and his dedication to the craft propelled him to work for over forty years with four different companies. He gained a reputation as a master installer and lead foreman, showcasing his expertise in every project.

         His passion not only provided for his beloved wife, Martha "Peggy" West, but also supported their seven children. Two of his youngest sons, Rodderick "Rod" West and Harold James West, followed in their father's footsteps and shared the same love for fencing. Jimmy introduced them to the industry at a young age, and their summers spent working in high school eventually led to over thirty years of individual fencing experience.

        Legacy is the embodiment of what is passed down from the past, from ancestors to successors. However, in our community, the essence of legacy often gets lost as new generations carve their own paths. Jimmy passed on his passion and knowledge to his sons, who in turn imparted that same passion and knowledge to me. Thanks to you and this opportunity to serve, we can continue our family legacy.
